War Machine, also known as James Rhodes, is a Marvel Comics character created by writer David Michelinie and artist John Byrne. He first appeared in Iron Man #118 (January 1979) as a supporting character, but has since become a prominent member of the Marvel Universe. James Rhodes is a highly trained and skilled military officer who becomes the pilot of the Iron Man armor after Tony Stark is unable to continue in the role. He is a loyal and dedicated ally to Iron Man, and the two often work together to protect the world from threats. In terms of powers, War Machine has access to the same advanced technology and weaponry as Iron Man, including the ability to fly and shoot powerful repulsor blasts from his armor.
