Avengers Star Addresses Whether Robert Downey Jr. Told Them About His Shock MCU Return

The Marvel fan-base was shocked when Robert Downey Jr. revealed he would be playing Dr. Doom in Avengers: Doomsday at SDCC, but not nearly as shocked as his MCU co-star Jeremy Renner. Renner plays Hawkeye in the MCU, first appearing in Kenneth Brannaugh’s Thor back in 2011. Hawkeye and Iron Man (Downey Jr.) first appeared on-screen together in the first Avengers movie, and both characters became central to the ‘Infinity Saga‘ story arc, culminating in Avengers: Endgame. Despite their long-running friendship (which is as strong off-screen as it is in the movies), Renner knew nothing about his co-star’s return to the MCU.
