In the wake of Marvel Studios’ decision to part ways with Jonathan Majors from the upcoming Avengers movie due to legal issues, all eyes turn to acclaimed actor Colman Domingo amidst speculations of him stepping into the iconic role of Kang the Conqueror.
Majors, whose portrayal of Kang captivated audiences in 2023’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” and the riveting series “Loki,” was primed to become a cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, his involvement came to an abrupt halt following a legal battle stemming from an assault conviction involving his ex-girlfriend in December.
As the Marvel fandom reels from this unexpected twist, online chatter has ignited with rumors suggesting Domingo might inherit the mantle of Kang. The 54-year-old actor, known for his dynamic performances in “Euphoria” and beyond, has finally broken his silence on the matter.
In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Domingo candidly addressed the swirling speculation: “My team has had conversations with Marvel about some aspect of the MCU for years. Do I know this to be true or not? I actually don’t know.”
Domingo continued, revealing his uncertainty about the situation: “I feel like my team doesn’t bring me something unless it’s real. So I don’t know. I could be in conversation, but I’m not sure. I would welcome a conversation around it.”
Acknowledging Majors’ legacy within the MCU, Domingo expressed his willingness to step into the role if given the opportunity: “Whatever they’re working out with Jonathan [Majors] and his legacy in the MCU, I feel like I just have to be in my own lane, whatever that is. There’s hearsay, there’s conversations, but I’m not even sure because I feel like nothing comes to me until something’s real. But I’d be down with it.”
Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Kang’s future, Marvel Studios remains tight-lipped about their plans. However, recent reports indicate a rewrite and retitle for the next Avengers installment, slated for release in May 2026.
Meanwhile, Domingo’s star continues to rise, with an Oscar nomination for Best Lead Actor at the upcoming Academy Awards for his portrayal of Bayard Rustin in Netflix’s biopic “Rustin.” Reflecting on this milestone, Domingo took to Instagram, expressing gratitude and reflecting on his journey.
As the saga of Kang the Conqueror unfolds and the Marvel Universe evolves, fans eagerly await further updates on the fate of one of its most enigmatic characters, and whether Domingo will indeed step into the role.
