Jonathan Majors has revealed that he used past Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) villains Ultron and Loki as inspiration for his performance as Kang the Conqueror in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. In an interview, Majors, who is set to be the main antagonist in the Paul Rudd-led threequel and the primary enemy of the Avengers in The Kang Dynasty, said that he drew on the “energy and presence” of the previous villains to develop his performance. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously praised Majors’ role in the MCU, saying that Kang will be a key character in Phases 4, 5, and 6.

In an interview, Majors said that he took some of the “very interesting qualities” of the three villains and “put those in the Kang soup” to create a character that represents “our generation” and is “a manifestation of our deepest insecurities as (a) society.” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has previously described Kang as “totally different” to Thanos and said that the character’s ability to change identities is “what’s most exciting.”

Majors has revealed that he used past MCU villains Loki, Ultron, and Thanos as inspiration for his performance, allowing him to incorporate the strongest facets of those characters into Kang’s many confirmed Variants. The trailer for Quantumania confirmed that Kang had already faced (and killed) the Avengers before, and the character’s telepathic powers could prove deadly in battle. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is set to premiere on February 17, 2023.
