Marvel Zombies, teased at the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, may bring back What If…?’s survivors and introduce an undead Thanos. Despite the lack of official release details, the series, born from comic origins, gained traction in What If…? Season 1. In the “What If… Zombies?!” episode, fan-favourite heroes faced off against undead versions of iconic characters, concluding with T’Challa, Spider-Man, and Scott Lang’s head escaping to Wakanda, where an undead Thanos awaited.

Recent rumors suggest a return of Black Panther, Peter Parker, Ant-Man, and the Mad Titan in Marvel Zombies, aligning with 2022 artwork featuring Ms. Marvel, Shang-Chi, Jimmy Woo, Hawkeye (Kate Bishop), Yelena Belova, Death Dealer, Red Guardian, and Katy. Zombified Variants of Ikaris, Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, Abomination, Captain America, Hawkeye (Clint Barton), and Ghost have also been showcased.

While indications hint at new leads taking the spotlight, the significant connection between Marvel Zombies and What If…? promises excitement. Ms. Marvel actress Iman Vellani shared her enthusiasm, describing Kamala as the central character and the “Frodo of the story.” The animated series envisions a new generation combating a zombie scourge, echoing the comic’s origins as a five-issue limited series from 2005. Penned by Robert Kirkman, the series explores an alternate universe where superheroes succumb to a virus, transforming them into zombies.

Marvel Zombies, with its undead twists and connections to fan-favorite characters, offers a unique and thrilling addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
